On the payroll...

This story starts outside.

The boys across the road were showing us their weekend purchases when the topic of pocket money came up - not sure how.

B1 told us he's getting $2 a week, but is supposed to do some jobs for that.

Later I asked Georgie if she'd like to get some pocket money for doing some jobs.

The force (ie love of money) is strong in this one and she readily agreed.

Come Sunday morning we made a job chart.

3 jobs - she is only 4, how many of you can do a complicated job chart for more than a few days? Some days I just manage the basics of life, let alone all the jobs that would be on my chart!
She had to make her bed, put her pyjamas under the pillow and feed the dog. All things she can and should be doing. (Well I wanted it to be achievable so she'd feel good about doing these jobs, and I thought training her into some of these habits early would be a bonus.)

Her reward at the end of this was $2.

Her first lot of pocket money (she'd earnt a little other pocket money for sweeping the floor and doing some other odd jobs) got spent on one of those put-your-money-in-turn-the-handle-a-piece-of-junk-in-a-plastic-ball-comes-out machines. And a ride on a Postman Pat ride. She might like money but her choice of spending needs some improvement.

She's now saving for the tiger at Ikea.

This weeks job chart has an extra job added to it - picking up all the books off the floor every morning, from all the reading the day before. She's doing very well and it looks like she'll be banking another $2 this weekend. We've also agreed on some extra tasks to help build the money stockpile - after all these toys are nearly $10.

It will be interesting to see if she can save for it or whether the pull of the junk shops is just too strong.
