Georgie is now a member of the local soccer team.
She's playing under 6 (the littlest they go) and yes, some of them are a year older than her (if you turn 6 in 2009 you play under 6) but she's enjoying it.
At under 6 level it's all about having fun and learning to play in a team as well as getting some soccer skills. Which is good because our team are a social lot and all happy to stop and chat with each other. :o)
It's a 4 aside game, on a small field, with soft goals. There is no goal keeper position as such, although they learn quickly!

A team photo - a couple more turned up after this, they have 8 in a team (roughly and the girls are spread out so most teams have one girl in them. Unfortunately we didn't know other kids in G's school class were going to play and she didn't get put with them. Next year.)
These teams all play for the same club and in the same age group - I think there are 7 under 6 teams, so they all have different colour bibs on to differentiate them.

Their uniform is white shorts, navy strip (the club provides the shirts and we wash them every week and bring them back for the game), white socks and then soccer boots.
G's very proud of her shin guards and white boots.
James didn't much like being in the pusher - he wanted to be out playing with his sister and the other boys.
The little girl in pink G went to kindy with - she knew someone in every other team apart from her own. That didn't stop her making friends with her own team, the friendships were cemented when we brought lollies for everyone to keep their energy up during the gala day.
I think G wants to be the 'official lolly bringer' now.
Dan is the manager, of course, and that's their coach standing next to him.
The kids get subbed off regularly for a break, they all rotate and they're all good at taking turns.
By the end of the day they were doing really well. A few coaching sessions and some games and they'll be looking to join the professionals... well, maybe.

That's so cute! We're going to be getting Jade into soccer once she's old enough. It's one of the most popular sports up here - that and Rugby which Greg plays. I love kids sports, so much fun.
