As proud as a...

It's been many years since the farm has been peacock free.
And right now, you're thinking, wow they're beautiful.
Yes they are.
But trust me on this, when they wake you (and all the neighbours in a one kilometre radius) up with their obscure calling (it sounds like *honk* *heeeelp*), one bird sitting at one end of the farm, calling to the other bird at the other end of the farm, at 5am in the morning, they kind of lose their shine.
Not to mention that they are like elephants performing ballet on the tin roof either outside the room you are sleeping in, or directly over your head.
Mum has 5 males left.
No babies this year.
The old boys are slowly slipping away too.
But despite their annoying habits (what would we complain about if it wasn't the peacocks? wait, let me think, oh that would be the roosters that crow all night) they are very beautiful when they open their tales mere feet in front of you.

mmmm I doubt it. They've gone through so many. The most peacocks they had at one time was about 18 Mum assures me (seems like about 180 was more appropriate).

Turn over, with foxes, was apprently high.
