Fun at Bright (Road Trip Part II)

We found the fish and chip shop at Bright - Roksalt Gourmet Fish and Chippery (on Camp Street in Bright, if you're visiting. I think it's open most nights, but lunches only towards the weekend part of the week).

The calamari was melt in your mouth delicious and the chips were all the gourmet hand made variety. Dan got a cob of corn for the kids too - artistically cut length ways, decorated with parsley, but they ate it so no photo sorry! The potato cakes were yummy as well. The fish was all right, not my kettle of fish (boom boom, ha! sorry) but the calamari and chips were so nice it just dwarfed the fish (the foothills of the Victorian Alps is not necessarily the place you'd go looking for Australia's best fish).

Here's what was left.
We sat in a lovely park for lunch, along with lots of other picnickers.
Not far from us they had what has to be Snow Countries best attempt at a beach, down at the (very cold, mountain fed) Ovens river. (Actually it was really nice and had a couple of water slides and had been done up to be a really nice little swimming spot.)
The kids were itching to get in.
Here they are looking towards the River and the little bridge that crossed the offshoot stream.
If you look closely you can see the Lifesaver under his little tent.

James was keen to go because Georgie was. Here he is sitting on the edge of the mat waiting, waiting, waiting. I'm not sure he knew what he was going to, but he would have been very happy just to walk round the park and pat every dog in sight - he's our own Dr Doolittle.
We're ready, come on let's go.
Still not sure, but just happy to follow G.

Right across the water there is a little kiddies pool.
Georgie spotted it early on. This is what she was excited about going to.
The view from the other side, over at the little pool.
It's nice and shady.
It was pretty hot that day - not the 37 degree weather we had a bit later in the week, but nearly up there. The shade was very restful.
You'd think the water would be nice, but it felt like it was full of ice cubes!
The kiddies pool wasn't too bad, if you like your calf deep water chilled.
The kids didn't mind though.

Dad did all the playing in the pool.
Cold water and I don't mix.
Come to think of it, sun and I don't really mix - he tans, I just go a nice shade of lobster red very very quickly.
To James, climbing with the poles was the funnest bit.
He face planted in the water once, and I thought it would be all over after that, but nope, he just picked himself up (well Dan picked him up) and kept on going.
Even the flies didn't stop him.
It was only the temptation of an icecream that eventually got her out of the water, with the promise to buy some floating toys and come back again.
