Happy Birthday from Shoal Bay

Dan's hard work often brings us unexpected surprises, so when he came home and said he'd won a weekend in luxury up at Shoal Bay we decided that his birthday would be the perfect time to spend some family time relaxing.
(The plan was a good one, but the hard work bites you sometimes and Dan had to spend a lot of time in the room working to get a very important job done, still we did get some fun time in.)

Shoal Bay is on the Central Coast, north of Sydney (maybe about 3 hours north, but don't quote me). We had a little apartment at the Shoal Bay Spa. It was literally across the road from the very lovely beach and had several pools. The kids loved the one with the sandpit right next to the big pool.

Here's James showing you that even Thomas (or in this case Gordon) needs a holiday. We even brought the Thomas that can go in the water so he could have a swim too!
We went on a Dolphin watch tour.
I had in my head that the boat sped across the water and the dolphins road the waves next to us... hmmm, nothing could have been further from the truth.

Here's the gang getting ready to go.
James and Gordon.
The boat had two levels. I was out the front and the kids and Dan kept going up and down to inside. The ride out into the bay was a loooooong one.
Unfortunately the day we chose to go a dust storm moved across the bay.
Erm, yes, two little angels aren't they?

It took us quite a while to find the dolphins and then we had word that a couple of other boats had some down one end of the bay so we headed off down there.
This is what we could see as we approached. Yep, that's them there, those little dots.
They did put down the net on the side of the boat and some keen youngsters climbed in to see if the dolphins would come closer. We could see they came right up to one of the other boats and they did come a little closer to ours, but not up to the net.

Up a little closer + some zoom.
The trip back was spent trying to amuse children who were now pretty grumpy. I think my whale/dolphin watching days are pretty much over now, it's just not as exciting as I always imagine.

Me impersonating Little Mister No!

Sometimes he's just crazy... this is what he does when you say smile.

Playing the kissing monster game always gets a laugh.

Coming back past all the bays.

Coming up through the hatch.
Gigi enjoyed putting her little backpack thing on and standing out in the wind and pretending she was either attached to a kite, or a superhero.
