Lots of things come with the responsibility of being a school parent.
At this time of year the calendar seems exceptionally full - fund raisers, toy drives, party days at school, special lunch days, lots of birthdays and finally Speech Day (or night as the case might be).
There are roughly 120 kids at our school and last night I was grateful for this as I read the programme. The night started at 6 and was scheduled to finish at 8pm. I didn't think Dan would be able to make it (he arrived just as we were singing the National Anthem) and I was worried I'd have Captain Chaos to myself for 2 hours. Instead, Dan had him giggling for a lot of the time with me going "shhhhhhhhh" at them.
We were right up the back so the quality of my photos aren't great. Sorry. But here is K - 3 singing Six White Boomers. Little Miss G is right in the middle at the front and sang with great gusto. (She is a good singer in case you're wondering.)

Each class got a series of awards. These were usually made up of Academic awards like English, Maths, Most Improved, Consistent Worker etc etc. This year in Kindergarten a new award was created.
Two little girls were the recipients, one of them was our little girl (and everyone who knows her has told me how much she deserved it).
She was awarded for her 'Outstanding compassion towards her peers'.

We couldn't be prouder - compassion towards your peers (and teachers, as her report says) is not something you can teach a child.
We can teach our kids to be polite and well mannered, to do the right thing in the situation, but compassion and empathy is simply something that has to come from within, something you either have or you don't - especially if you're 5.
So this award basically acknowledges what we already know, that she is a very special person.
Congratulations sweetheart, we are incredibly proud.
